Express Slovakia ´´Medzinárodná preprava a.s.´´ realized the container transport.
On the 18th February , the second consignment of humanitarian aid – Slovakia for Haiti was loaded onto container, in total, 9 tons of materials for 177 300 EUR. However, some problems occured – heavy snowing and truck which was snowed up, caused approximately 2 hour delay. Finally, five men and one woman – the workers of humanitarian base in Limbach – quickly loaded pallets and the container put off on an almost one month journey to Carribean.
The material, that is leaving today, consists of emergency quarters, emergency food and clothes. Haiti is expecting monsoon season in April, therefore Slovakia has sent umbrellas for thousands of people. There is also underwear within material aid, in various sizes – pants, undershirts, handkerchiefs, socks, trousers. ´´ Just basic clothes for people, they really don´t have anything at this time ´´, Zoltán Jasovsky, the head of Humanitarian Aid of Crises Management department and Civil Defence of Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Slovak Republic, has explained. The clothes and emergency food – bowls, cutlery and hygiene – make do with 1000 people and with housing for 100 people.
Currently, the container is waiting for transloading onto the train in Bratislava or Dunajská Streda and then will be heading into Germany with its arrival within one week. It will be sent to Haiti from one of the ports – Bremerhaven or Hamburg , where the transport will take next 18 to 20 days. However, Port – au – Prince port was damaged by the earthquake, the goods is heading for Dominican Republic (Caucedo port) which is a neighbouring country, therefrom to Haiti by road transport.
´´Deed of Donation´´ is directly written to the office of the Prime Minister of Haiti ( Jean-Max Bellerive, editorial note)´´ Jasovský announced and added that the Prime Minister would decide which international organization he would pass this aid to. The situation in Haiti is being monitored by European association. They are getting information that people need an emergency quarters, food and clothes. Based upon these requirements Slovak people have prepared the consignment.
